A Rusting Relationship

Dear Claudienne

I purchased a 25 cubic-foot French Door Whirlpool refrigerator at a cost of $230,000 from the Courts Store on Barnett St, Montego Bay on 11/7/2012. At the same time I made the purchase I also bought an Affresh stainless steel cleaner. The refrigerator had a one-year supershield warranty. In February, 2013, I noticed that the fridge had started to rust and I filed a complaint at Courts. They sent a technician to look at the problem. The technician took photographs and a Customer Service representative advised me to purchase a bar-friendly cleaner. However, I declined. I called the Consumer Affairs Commission about the problem and also the head office of Courts in Kingston. The head office forwarded the complaint to the manager in Montego Bay and another technician was sent to do another evaluation on March 28. He again took more pictures and said that they would be forwarded to the Whirlpool Headquarters overseas. However, the rust is worsening. In the meantime Courts has told me that they are waiting for a response from Whirlpool. I need them to give me a brand new fridge. Why should I wait on Whirlpool for an answer? I did not purchase anything from them. I made a cash purchase from Courts and I expect to get my money’s worth. Could you kindly look into the matter for me. SR Dear SR Tell Claudienne communicated with Courts. The Director of Sales said that the company had reviewed the pictures of the refrigerator taken by their technician. She said that the company was of the view that the rust could be due to a “care issue”. Nonetheless, Courts decided to replace the refrigerator in the interest of good customer service, she said. We note that the refrigerator was replaced with a new one last Friday, April 5. Good luck. Dear Claudienne I would like to commend you for the fantastic job you are doing. I am a sixty-four-year-old retired teacher. I applied for the NIS pension and for over one year now the Ministry of Labour and Social Security has received the printout of all the NIS deductions from my salary. However, I have not heard from them. I have made 59 calls to the ministry in Kingston but the telephone was only answered nine times. I do not know if the delay could be caused by the fact that I was issued with two different NIS numbers. The first number was misplaced, so I was issued with a second number. Please check on this for me as I need the money. NS Dear NS The NIS head office has apologised for the delay in processing your claim. Tell Claudienne was told that your claim will be processed immediately. We will follow this up. Good luck. Have a problem with a store, utility, a company?
